HPE The CEO has compared his new price review policy to a “surcharge” for rising component costs, stating that all his customers “understand” the dynamic.
As exclusively revealed IT channel oxygenHPE on February 5 informed partners had modified its terms and conditions to allow price adjustments “up until the day of shipment.”
The measure obtained mixed comments between partners, with some caveats that post-OP price increases may be “unpassable.”
On its first-quarter earnings conference call last night, HPE CEO Antonio Neri tried to put the move into more context, saying that DRAM and NAND now account for “more than half” of the bill of materials cost of a traditional server (and that ratio is expected to rise even further).
HPE has taken a “very agile stance” in response, Neri said on the call (see transcript here)
This includes “reserving the right to increase the price from the time we quote the product to the time we ship it.”
