HPE Aruba has launched a new private 5G portfolio with the aim of simplifying deployment for enterprise customers. This portfolio includes a 4G/5G core, servers, SIM/eSIM cards, small cells, and a control panel. The goal is to make it easier for network administrators to manage private 5G networks, and to provide faster deployment for industries such as manufacturing, healthcare, public accommodations, and education.

Integration follows HPE’s acquisition of Athonet in 2023, and the private 5G portfolio is based on the Athonet core. The strategy is to manage private 5G networks in the same way as Wi-Fi networks, bringing them together for greater simplicity. This approach is similar to other private 5G providers, such as Nokia, which offer a full stack solution.

HPE’s global ambitions include supporting interoperability with shared spectrum for private companies and regions where spectrum can be obtained without an operator. This allows enterprises to take more ownership of the solution and deploy private 5G networks more quickly and with less complexity. The private 5G network can complement existing Wi-Fi networks and be used for specific use cases, such as back-end applications in sports stadiums.

The main obstacle to adoption has been the complexity of different paths to deploying private 5G networks. HPE aims to demystify this journey by offering a unified platform to manage wired and wireless networks, private 5G, and SD-WAN networks. The ultimate goal is to integrate all networks under a single management platform for easier administration and control.
