Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) and Danfoss have teamed up to launch HPE IT Sustainability Services: Data Center Heat Recovery, a heat recovery module designed to help organizations manage excess heat as they transition to more sustainable IT facilities. This collaboration combines HPE’s scalable modular data center with Danfoss’ innovative cooling and heat reuse technologies.

There is a rapid increase in the integration of AI expected to lead to a significant rise in energy demand from IT infrastructure. The AI industry is projected to consume ten times more electricity in 2026 than in 2023. In response to this, the new energy-efficient data center solution from HPE and Danfoss incorporates direct liquid cooling to reduce power consumption by 20%, along with Danfoss heat reuse modules and oil-free compressors to capture excess heat and improve cooling efficiency by up to 30%.

HPE’s modular data center boasts a power usage efficiency (PUE) of 1.1, compared to 1.3-1.4 for traditional data centers, enabling faster deployment in as little as 6 months and supporting compute-intensive AI workloads. Danfoss is using its energy-efficient solutions to drive decarbonization, drawing inspiration from the use of recovered data center heat at its carbon-neutral central campus in Denmark.

“Our strategic partnership with HPE is a testament to how we are transforming the construction and decarbonization of the data center industry alongside our customers,” said Jürgen Fischer, President of Danfoss Climate Solutions. “At HPE, we believe in the power of collaboration to create game-changing solutions,” added Sue Preston, vice president of HPE.

The HPE IT Sustainability Services – Data Center Heat Recovery solution is now available to order as a modular offering with seamlessly integrated components from both companies. As part of a comprehensive sustainability approach, Danfoss is also collaborating with HPE on retiring and refurbishing end-of-use IT assets through HPE Asset Upcycling services.
