HP Inc. will lay off between 4,000 and 6,000 employees. The plan calls for the PC and printer prodigy to use AI to improve its operations.
President and CEO Enrique Lores announced the plan Tuesday alongside the company’s fourth-quarter results, saying HP Inc’s “future-ready” cost-savings plan, which began in 2022 and was recently completed, exceeded its $1.4 billion savings target. But with HP Inc. still needing to trim fat, Lores has launched a “company-wide program led by an executive who reports directly to me.”
“We aim to achieve approximately $1 billion in gross savings within three years across product development, customer service and support, and many of our operational processes,” he said. The company’s earnings release (PDF) states that the goals of the new cost reduction program are to “increase customer satisfaction, product innovation and productivity through the adoption and activation of artificial intelligence.”
