Consider these two quotes on two contracts that the Department of Defense says are key to modernizing networks and improving computing power:
“The war fighter is absolutely waiting for it.”
“It is one of the crown jewels that we have as part of our IT reform.”
The first quote describes how former Department of Defense Chief Information Officer Dana Deasy described the Department’s need for the cloud contract for the corporate shared defense infrastructure in August 2019. More than a year and a half later, the corporate cloud should contain data in all areas. Despite an order being awarded at the end of 2019, no classification levels were created.
The second quote is from one of Deasy’s agents on the Defense Enclave Services Contract, an IT services contract to create a common network for non-military DoD offices known as the fourth real estate agency.
