Google I/O 2026 was about how we make AI helpful for everyone in new ways. But we not only announced our innovations in AI at I/O, we also used these tools to bring I/O to life.
It’s both a strange and exciting moment to build something. We are witnessing an incredible transformation where AI tools are getting better every month, effectively rewriting the rules of what we can create.
This year we challenged ourselves to use the same AI we brought to the stage to outdo ourselves in innovative, creative and efficient ways.
We’ve moved faster than ever before, prototyping in real time – combining human artistry with experimental technology – and there was no better example of this than the Timmy TPU film.
But the reward is in showing how these tools unlock creativity and relieve pressure from mundane tasks, allowing the team to get their best hours back for the tasks they’re best suited for. If done right, the event is amazing in itself, and as a viewer you stop thinking about what AI was like…
