(Pocket-lint) – Microsoft has quietly revealed that it’s adding a free built-in virtual private network (VPN) service to its Edge browser. The announcement was discovered in a Microsoft support page. Microsoft is now testing the VPN service operated by Cloudflare under the name Edge Secure Network. Eventually, it will be released to the public over-the-air as part of a security update.

Here’s everything you need to know about Edge browser’s VPN service.

How does Edge’s free VPN work?

When Edge Secure Network is enabled, it should encrypt your web traffic. That means internet service providers can’t collect browsing information that you’d rather keep private. The VPN service allows you to hide your location by surfing the Internet with a virtual IP address. And yes, you should be able to use the Edge browser’s built-in VPN to access blocked content in your country (like certain Netflix shows).

Are there any restrictions on the free VPN?
