If you want to download the tvOS 15 public beta today we have all the steps you need to jump to the update for this fall before the final release. But definitely not everyone should try this.
If you rush to download the tvOS 15 public beta, you may be putting your Apple TV at risk that you may not want. Yes, getting the tvOS 15 developer beta onto your Apple TV was incredibly difficult (you needed Xcode), but all people looking forward to trying the tvOS 15 public beta should know how difficult it is can fix it if something goes wrong.
Unlike the other Apple betas, it’s not easy to remove. In fact, if you’re having issues with an Apple TV 4K in public beta, you’ll need to work with Apple. We’ll cover that below. But if you really want to try it SharePlay on the Apple TV (can’t blame you), support for spatial audio with AirPods Pro or AirPods Max and the Dual HomePod mini Speaker setup, here is what you need to know.
Should you download tvOS 15 public beta?
Okay, before we go any further, we need to talk about the legitimate reason not to download the tvOS 15 public beta. It just came out, and if something goes wrong you may not be able to go back.
The Apple TV 4K has no way of doing a factory reset because it doesn’t have the USB-C port that the Apple TV HD has. So if you rely on your Apple TV 4K I say wait a little. If something goes wrong with the tvOS 15 public beta on an Apple TV 4K, you’ll have to go through it Apple TV support to try and save. Apple’s documentation confirms all of this.
Check out the online reactions to this beta and see if it’s stable enough. You’re probably waiting for tvOS 15’s second public beta. The system itself may be stable, but do third-party apps run fine on the tvOS 15 beta?
In addition, many third-party applications do not (currently) support SharePlay. So you can mostly test it out in the Apple TV app. That may not be what fans get out of it Disney Plus, Twitch, Hulu and the rest of the announced services want to hear.
