Accounts on AI platforms such as ChatGPT, Claude, and Perplexity can attract the attention of attackers just as much as email accounts or social media profiles. It is important to respond quickly to any signs of unauthorized access: unfamiliar chats, changed settings, unexpected messages, or suspicious logins.
To protect an account on an AI platform, use a separate, strong password for each service and store it in a password manager. Multi-factor authentication is also available for ChatGPT and Perplexity. Claude uses a different mechanism: the service authenticates users through a link sent by email, without requiring a separate password.
Signs That an AI Account May Have Been Hacked
You should check your account security if your history contains prompts or conversations that you did not create. Other warning signs may include changes to personal information, linked payment methods, security settings, or profile preferences.
Another reason to investigate is the presence of unknown active devices or sessions. If you suspect that someone has gained access to your account, end any unauthorized sessions, change your password wherever one is used, and check the security of the linked email account.
