How stacking supermarket shelves shaped David Gonski’s path

Businessman David Gonski believes artificial intelligence (AI) will “improve” rather than “destroy” the education system as he gives up his key role in the industry.

Mr Gonski will step down as chancellor of the University of New South Wales on Thursday – a position he has held for more than 20 years.

Now a well-known name in education – best known for his Gonski review of school finance – he had already been a respected figure in business and arts circles in previous decades.

Mr Gonski told the ABC he was optimistic about the future of education in Australia, despite the growing challenges posed by AI and funding pressures on universities.
