Hitachi Construction Machinery Co., Ltd. has chosen Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) to migrate its large-scale mission-critical business systems for various operations. By utilizing Oracle Cloud VMware Solution and Oracle Exadata Database Service at OCI, the company has successfully migrated to the cloud with minimal changes to applications and databases from its previous on-premises setup. This migration has resulted in improved performance and reduced operating costs by 20 percent in various key areas.

Hitachi Construction Machinery, known for developing and servicing construction equipment globally, including hydraulic excavators and wheel loaders, made the decision to migrate its core systems to the public cloud as part of its digital transformation initiative. The company selected OCI due to its secure migration strategy that does not require application changes, leading to improved business continuity and reduced total cost of ownership. The migration has allowed Hitachi Construction Machinery to scale its resources quickly, increase flexibility as its business evolves, and lower infrastructure operating costs significantly.

By migrating approximately 500 virtual servers and 100 databases to Oracle Cloud VMware Solution and Oracle Exadata Database Service at OCI, Hitachi Construction Machinery has benefited from better architecture, improved automation, enhanced performance, data security configurations, and optimized costs without the need for application modifications. The company is also implementing a new disaster recovery environment using Oracle Cloud regions to strengthen business continuity.

According to Noriko Momoki, CEO and President of Hitachi Construction Machinery’s DX Promotion Group, OCI’s capability to securely migrate mission-critical databases running on Oracle Exadata and VMware virtualization environments has been instrumental in the successful migration process. Furthermore, Ash Ray, vice president of mission-critical database technologies at Oracle, emphasizes how services like Exadata Database Service and Oracle Cloud VMware Solution enable organizations like Hitachi Construction Machinery to accelerate digital transformation, benefit from cloud economics, and meet high-performance expectations.

Looking ahead, Hitachi Construction Machinery plans to modernize its applications to cloud-native OCI and migrate its remaining databases from on-premises environments.
