Hitachi Construction chooses Oracle for cloud services contract

Oracle has secured a significant cloud migration deal with Hitachi Construction Machinery Co., Ltd., choosing Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (“OCI”) for its digital transformation strategy. The Japanese heavy equipment manufacturer will migrate large-scale enterprise systems across multiple departments to OCI, utilizing Oracle Cloud VMware Solution and Oracle Exadata Database Service. This migration has resulted in performance improvements and cost savings for Hitachi Construction Machinery, demonstrating the benefits of cloud migration.

Hitachi Construction Machinery highlighted OCI’s unique capabilities in securely migrating databases running in Oracle Exadata and VMware virtualization environments without extensive reconfiguration. The company plans to further modernize its applications on OCI and migrate remaining databases to the cloud platform in the future.

This deal is a significant win for Oracle in the competitive cloud services market, particularly in the industrial sector where robust and reliable cloud solutions are essential. The company aims to consolidate its position in the global cloud services market, competing with giants like AWS, Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud. Cloud services are experiencing growth, with hyperscalers investing in generative AI to drive cloud consumption growth.

AWS currently leads the cloud infrastructure market, followed by Azure and Google Cloud. Oracle is positioning itself as a hyperscaler capable of delivering AI and a full suite of cloud services across various environments. The company expects significant growth in cloud services revenue in fiscal 2025, with cloud infrastructure services growing faster than in the previous fiscal year.
