New research shows that teenagers worldwide are turning to ChatGPT for homework, comfort and life advice as schools struggle to catch up.
A recent study of 545 high school students in Kashmir reveals a pressing educational challenge: nearly 96% regularly use ChatGPT for schoolwork, mirroring patterns found in other research in Cambodia, Hungary and wider Europe. But the numbers only tell part of the story. Students describe these AI tools not only as academic aids, but also as companions and partners in decision-making.
“ChatGPT feels like a trusted friend,” explained one teenager. Another said: “AI helps me make decisions and organize my life.” One student summed it up best: “I use ChatGPT like a friend, especially when I have no one else to talk to or share my feelings with.”
