The art of a high school student who won the Doodle for Google contest is featured on Google’s home page today. The theme for the contest was “My wish for the next 25 years,” and the winner, Maisie from Washington, DC, will receive a $55,000 college scholarship and a $50,000 technology package for her school in recognition of her Doodle, which depicts a family dinner.

Maisie’s inspiration for the Doodle came from her desire to hold on to the traditions she loves, particularly her family dinner on Sunday nights. She hopes that this tradition will remain a constant in her life as she grows and changes in the next 25 years.

The Doodle for Google contest has been running for 16 years and invites students from kindergarten through 12th grade across the US to submit drawings for consideration. Fifty-five state and territory winners are selected, and Google users then vote for five finalists. Each finalist receives a $5,000 college scholarship.

In 2022, Google honored a victim of the Uvalde school shooting by featuring a Doodle he created shortly before his tragic death. This highlights a departure from Google’s traditional practice of honoring established figures, such as artists like Rosa Bonheur, Paula Modersohn-Becker, and Pacita Abad, as well as commemorating dates, events, and holidays.

Overall, the Doodle for Google contest celebrates the creativity and aspirations of young students across the country, giving them a platform to showcase their art and share their hopes for the future. The winning Doodle serves as a reminder of the importance of family traditions and the desire to hold on to what is most cherished as we navigate the changes and challenges that lie ahead.
