Here’s what we know about Intel Arc’s ‘Battlemage’ so far – Dexerto

Intel is set to enter the competitive consumer graphics card market with its upcoming generation of GPUs codenamed “Battlemage.” While Intel has historically been known for its CPUs, the company has been working to establish a presence in the GPU market. The initial Intel Arc graphics cards did not achieve the same level of performance or sales as competitors like AMD and Nvidia, but Intel is not giving up. The next-generation Arc GPU, Battlemage, is expected to bring significant improvements over its predecessor.

Although Intel has not officially confirmed the lineup for Battlemage GPUs, leaks and reports from industry insiders suggest that the release window for these GPUs could be late 2024. The first card expected to launch is the BMG-G10, followed by the BMG-G21 and BMG-G31. However, rumors have circulated that the BMG-G10 may have been canceled, leading to delays for the rest of the lineup.

Leaked specifications for the Battlemage GPUs include details about the BMG-G10, which is projected to feature HPG Xe2 Architecture, 56 Xe cores, 448 XV (EU), 112 MB of adamantine cache, and 16GB 256-bit GDDR6X video memory. Additionally, Intel is reportedly working on two Xe2 chips for the Battlemage GPU, one with 20 Xe cores and the other with 24 Xe cores, both equipped with 15GB of VRAM.

Speculation about the performance of the Battlemage GPUs indicates that Intel is focusing on the low- and mid-range segments of the market, aiming to fill the gap left by Nvidia’s discontinuation of lower-end GPUs. Intel is also rumored to introduce new features, including GDDR7 support, to enhance performance.

In terms of features, Intel’s Battlemage GPUs are expected to compete with Nvidia and AMD in gaming performance. Intel’s version of DLSS, called XeSS, uses Frame Extrapolation technology to deliver performance benefits similar to DLSS. This technology reduces input lag by requiring only one frame of data for frame interpolation. Updates and enhanced versions of this technology are likely planned for current and future Intel graphics cards.

Overall, Intel’s Battlemage GPUs represent the company’s continued efforts to establish a competitive presence in the consumer graphics card market. With improvements in performance, specifications, and features, Intel aims to rival established players like AMD and Nvidia with its next-generation GPUs. While details are based on leaks and rumors, the potential for Battlemage to offer a compelling alternative to existing options is promising for consumers and the industry as a whole.
