A recent report from Nutanix’s sixth annual global Healthcare Enterprise Cloud Index (ECI) survey revealed that healthcare organizations consider advanced AI to be both a priority and a challenge. This survey polled IT decision-makers in healthcare organizations worldwide to gauge enterprise progress with cloud adoption, hybrid multicloud models, ransomware, sustainability, and AI.

The report highlighted AI solution adoption as a driver for future infrastructure efforts, with CXOs acknowledging AI’s role in modernizing IT infrastructure. Despite recognizing its importance, 37 percent of businesses reported that the state of their current infrastructure posed a challenge. Healthcare organizations ranked AI support as a top IT infrastructure purchase criterion, with 84 percent planning to increase investments in AI strategy in the coming year. However, 82 percent of respondents considered running AI to be a challenge, and 33 percent described it as a significant challenge.

Other key findings from the report include the accelerated use of multiple IT operating models by healthcare organizations, workload portability, AI support, and security and compliance concerns driving application relocation to different infrastructures. Challenges in healthcare IT departments related to multi-environment operations, security, and sustainability were also identified, with data management and security issues cited as top concerns.

Looking ahead, the report suggested that embracing hybrid multicloud as the new norm requires a reimagined approach from CXOs to address infrastructure challenges, dismantle silos, fortify against cyberthreats, and ensure seamless performance across diverse platforms. The survey, conducted in December 2023 by U.K. researcher Vanson Bourne, included input from 1,500 IT and DevOps/platform engineering decision-makers across various industries and regions.

In conclusion, healthcare organizations are prioritizing AI adoption to drive IT infrastructure modernization, yet they face challenges in implementing and running AI solutions effectively. As technology continues to evolve, organizations must adapt by reimagining their infrastructure to meet the demands of their business operations and overcome key challenges in data management, security, and compliance.
