HCLTech announced on Thursday that it will be moving into the telecom services market by acquiring certain assets of Hewlett Packard Enterprise’s Communications Technology Group (CTG). The deal, expected to be finalized within 6-9 months pending regulatory approvals, will bring together industry-leading intellectual property, engineering and R&D talent, and key customer relationships with leading suppliers of global communication services under HCLTech. Approximately 1,500 CTG employees with extensive experience in the telecommunications industry will join HCLTech, with employees located in countries such as Spain, Italy, India, Japan, and China to support customers worldwide. HCLTech’s CEO, C Vijayakumar, stated that the acquisition will bring in top engineering talent and industry-leading intellectual property, as well as direct relationships with global communication service providers, helping to accelerate the company’s growth strategy in the telecom industry.

The acquisition is expected to enhance HCLTech’s portfolio significantly, adding new business capabilities such as support systems, network applications, cloud services, and data intelligence. These new assets will complement HCLTech’s existing services, which are already highly digitized and incorporate technologies like artificial intelligence, Internet of Things, and data-driven models. The integration of these new assets aims to improve efficiency and provide seamless integration within an end-to-end partner ecosystem. Meanwhile, HPE will retain its Operations Support Systems business, including OSS, orchestration, assurance, and 5G networks, operating within HPE Aruba Networking to deliver value to HPE customers and telecom partners.

By acquiring assets from HPE’s CTG Group and forming a strategic partnership with HPE, HCLTech is strengthening its telecommunications practice to address the growing and evolving global telecommunications market. This move will position HCLTech as a key player in the telecom industry, with a broader range of services and capabilities to offer to its customers. This strategic acquisition will allow HCLTech to expand its reach and provide a more comprehensive suite of services to meet the needs of the modern telecom industry.
