HCL Technologies (HCLTech) has announced its intention to acquire specific intellectual property (IP) and research and development (R&D) assets from Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE). This strategic move is aimed at bolstering HCLTech’s capabilities in the telecom engineering services sector, with a focus on business support systems (BSS), network applications, cloud services, and data intelligence.
By integrating these assets, HCLTech seeks to enhance its service offerings by combining them with its existing digital technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), and data-driven methodologies. The acquisition is intended to strengthen HCLTech’s position in the market, improve operational efficiency, and facilitate seamless integration across a wide network of partners.
The assets being acquired from HPE include cutting-edge intellectual property and technology solutions that are expected to provide a competitive edge to HCLTech’s portfolio. These assets predominantly come from HPE’s Communications Technology Group (CTG), enhancing HCLTech’s engineering capabilities to better serve global Communications Service Providers (CSPs).
Meanwhile, HPE will retain the Operations Support Systems (OSS) segment of its business, housed within the HPE Aruba Networking division. This unit is recognized for its expertise in OSS, orchestration, assurance, public 5G service delivery management (SDM), and private 5G network solutions, and will continue to support HPE customers and telecommunications partners.
The acquisition is subject to regulatory approvals and customary closing conditions and is expected to be finalized within 6 to 9 months.
