HCL Technologies acquires CTG assets from Hewlett Packard Enterprise

HCLTech has entered into a strategic partnership with Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) in order to enhance its presence in the telecom services market. This collaboration involves the acquisition of certain assets of HPE’s Communications Technology Group (CTG) by HCLTech. As a result of this agreement, HCLTech will gain access to valuable intellectual property, top-notch research and development capabilities, skilled engineering talent, and established relationships with major global communications service providers (CSPs). Additionally, HCLTech will inherit a range of industry-leading solutions and services related to business support systems, network applications, cloud services, and data intelligence from HPE. These new capabilities will complement HCLTech’s existing digital services portfolio, which includes artificial intelligence, Internet of Things, and data-driven models.

It is worth noting that HPE will retain a portion of its former CTG business focused on operations support systems (OSS). The Telco Solutions group within HPE Aruba Networking will continue to cater to HPE customers and telecommunications partners by providing services related to 5G SDM and 5G private networks. Despite this transaction, both companies emphasize that the deal is contingent upon regulatory approvals and other customary closing conditions, with an expected timeframe of 6 to 9 months for the completion of the transaction.

C Vijayakumar, the CEO and President of HCLTech, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership with HPE, stating that it will bolster HCLTech’s telecommunications practice and support its growth strategy in the global telecom market. He specifically highlighted the addition of top-tier engineering talent, cutting-edge intellectual property, and direct relationships with 20 of the top 30 global CSPs as key benefits of the collaboration. Vijayakumar also emphasized the potential for further innovation, joint propositions, and transformative services resulting from the strategic partnership with HPE.

Antonio Neri, President and CEO of Hewlett Packard Enterprise, echoed Vijayakumar’s sentiments by affirming HPE’s confidence in HCLTech’s ability to drive the ongoing transformation of global telecom, media, and technology companies. Neri emphasized HCLTech’s understanding of CTG’s business heritage, strategy, and future potential as key factors in selecting HCLTech as the ideal partner. Under the terms of the agreement, approximately 1,500 CTG employees with extensive experience in the telecommunications industry will transition to HCLTech to serve clients in various countries, including Spain, Italy, India, Japan, and China.

Overall, the strategic partnership between HCLTech and HPE signifies a significant move in the telecom services market, with HCLTech gaining access to valuable assets and expertise to enhance its offerings to global CSPs. The collaboration is expected to drive innovation, strengthen relationships with key players in the industry, and accelerate growth in the telecommunications sector.
