Hackers tricked Meta’s own AI chatbot into granting access to some Instagram accounts after its user support process was recently automated.
Meta said it has now fixed the issue that allowed people to access someone else’s Instagram account simply by asking Meta’s AI chatbot to add their own email address to the account.
This comes after Meta introduced AI-based support for all accounts on Facebook and Instagram earlier this year.
In late May, Telegram chats began discussing the breach, revealing that Meta’s AI assistant readily added an email address to an existing account as part of its standard password reset flow, with little security in place.
A video posted on X appears to show one such hacker demonstrating how this works.
The hacker has clicked account recovery on a victim’s account and is notified by the AI chatbot.
