The Gujarat government has signed MoUs with IBM, Microsoft, and NASSCOM to promote the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies in the state. The MoUs were signed in the presence of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, with IBM and the Department of Science and Technology agreeing to establish an AI cluster at Gujarat International Finance Tec (GIFT) City. Microsoft signed an MoU to establish an Artificial Intelligence Center of Excellence at GIFT City, focusing on machine learning, cognitive services, and bot services.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s emphasis on futuristic technology to boost India’s economy has led Gujarat to prioritize AI technologies. The state government has launched the Up Skilling Industry Ready Talent Program to meet the demand for skilled manpower in industries leveraging advanced technologies. Sandip Patel, Managing Director of IBM India-South Asia, highlighted the importance of AI as a driving force for India’s development and announced collaborations to develop AI curricula for state schools and universities.

The program aims to train 25,000 students in advanced technology courses over three years, with universities and course providers invited to participate in training young people in deep technology. IBM, NVidia, AWS, TCS, and L&T Edutech have committed to offering courses under the initiative, with four state universities – GTU, IITRAM, PDEU, and Ganpat University – joining as aggregators.

Overall, these partnerships aim to foster innovation and collaboration among financial institutions in GIFT City, enhance AI capabilities in Gujarat, and promote the use of AI technologies to establish the state as a global gateway to the future. By investing in AI and advanced technologies, Gujarat seeks to stay ahead as one of the top industrial states and contribute to India’s growth and development.
