Britain’s technology minister called the wave of images of women and children being digitally stripped of their clothes generated by Elon Musk’s Grok AI “appalling and unacceptable in a decent society.”
After thousands of intimate deepfakes circulated online, Liz Kendall said X, Musk’s social media platform, needed to “address this urgently” and she backed Britain’s regulator Ofcom to “take whatever enforcement action it deems necessary.”
“We cannot and will not allow the dissemination of these demeaning and degrading images that disproportionately target women and girls,” she said. “Make no mistake, Britain will not tolerate the endless spread of disgusting and offensive material online. We must all work together to put an end to it.”
Her comments came amid warnings that the Online Safety Act, designed to combat online harm and protect children, urgently needs to be strengthened despite pressure from the Trump administration to weaken it.
