A leading green MSP has urged the Scottish government to cut all ties with Amazon – including the £ 4.7 million year it spends on AWS – following a report claiming the e-retailer closes every week Thousands of unsold items disposed of.

Lorna Slater, Co-Chair of the Scottish Greens, raised the issue on Thursday during First Minister’s Questions (FMQs) with Nicola Sturgeon.

She referred the Prime Minister to the ITV report with undercover film from Amazon’s Dunfermline Hub, which alleged that thousands of unsold items – many still in their original packaging – had been discarded or destroyed instead of being recycled or donated to charity .

Amazon has denied the claims.
