NEW JERSEY (WABC) — New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy made his final big announcement on Friday, with only four days left in office.
Murphy led a signing ceremony, alongside tech giant NVIDIA and New Jersey university presidents, to create a “memorandum of understanding” to unite the state’s research universities, the public sector, and NVIDIA.
The goal is to create an AI development hub.
The collaboration aligns state government, NVIDIA, the New Jersey AI Hub, and universities-Rutgers University, New Jersey Institute of Technology, Stevens Institute of Technology, and NJ Council of County Colleges-under one framework.
It will connect education, workforce development, research, and economic growth.
Besides the collaboration, New Jersey is making a $25 million investment to support a statewide AI supercomputer initiative. This ensures students, faculty, and researchers can access advanced computing infrastructures needed for hands-on learning, applied research, and workforce training.
Murphy said this will carry over into Mikie Sherrill’s administration when she takes office on Tuesday.
