TikTok, the video sharing social network, has piqued consumer interest over the past year. According to new research, this has also sparked their interest in VPNs (Virtual Private Networks).
The research of security consultants from Brooklyn, NY Security.org found that interest in VPNs correlated directly with current events.
The company measured the amount of web traffic in a day versus the average web traffic for a week prior to the date and correlated this with significant events in 2020.
VPN technology is used for several reasons. It can be used to create a secure channel for communication with the workplace, to protect confidential business information, to circumvent government restrictions, or to hide activities from Internet service providers, among other things.
