Google announced on Thursday the general availability of its latest AI model, Gemini 1.5 Flash, which is touted to be 20% faster than OpenAI’s newest bot, ChatGPT-4o. This AI chatbot, first unveiled at Google I/O in May, has been in public preview for the past month, allowing customers to test the product and provide feedback. Gemini 1.5 Flash has the capability to analyze an hour of video, 11 hours of audio, or over 700,000 words in one query, eliminating the need for users to break down their questions into parts. During a presentation to journalists, Google demonstrated how the AI can analyze a 14-minute video in just one minute.

Google claims that Gemini 1.5 Flash is also 40% faster than ChatGPT-3.5-turbo and has a higher information capacity. Users can input more context, whether it be audio, video, code, or text, resulting in more accurate answers. Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian described Gemini 1.5 Flash as the fastest model with the best price and performance option on the market. The AI model is currently available for developers for free in a limited capacity and at variable prices based on the amount of data users want to input. The more advanced Gemini 1.5 Pro model, though ten times more expensive, offers even greater context analysis, allowing users to process 22 hours of audio and 1.5 million words in one query.

According to Google, recent updates to Gemini 1.5 Flash, Gemini 1.5 Pro, and Image 3 make their AI software suite the most enterprise-ready generative AI platform available. Leading enterprise clients such as UberEats, Moody’s, and Shutterstock are utilizing Google’s AI products. One notable update is the enhanced “grounding” capabilities, where responses are linked to a source and assigned a reliability score to improve factuality and reduce errors. Moody’s Analytics Chief Product Officer Nick Reed emphasized the importance of grounding in using generative AI for decision-making processes, particularly in financial services.

Google also revealed its plans to launch a new industry-specific foundation tool in the third quarter, enabling financial analysts to incorporate data from Moody’s or legal experts to enhance their AI queries. The company reported a 60% increase in profits in the first quarter, partly attributed to AI. Gemini 1.5 Pro can analyze 22 hours of audio, while Gemini 1.5 Flash only takes one minute to analyze a 14-minute video. Overall, Google’s updates and new features position its AI software suite as the most enterprise-ready generative AI platform on the market.
