Google’s Circle to Search poised to include ‘listen’ feature and other enhancements

Google’s beta app hints at new features for its Circle to Search feature on Android. The latest beta version of the app includes signs of a “listen” button, a “select all” option for text, and a “save” button. These new features were discovered by AssembleDebug and Android Authority in the app’s v15.20.36.29 beta code.

The “listen” button could allow users to have Google read aloud a selection of highlighted text. The “select all” option is rumored to highlight all relevant text visible through the phone’s camera or a taken image. Additionally, the app shows signs of a “save” button, which would enable users to save snapshots of what they’ve highlighted in the Google app for later viewing.

Screenshots taken through Circle to Search are saved to a “saved” tab within the main Google app instead of taking up storage space on the device. The tipster who discovered these features mentioned that the screenshots will be placed in a new “uploaded images” album.

While these features are still in development, it may take some time for them to be fully implemented. In the meantime, Google has already launched Circle to Search on Pixel tablets, allowing users with Android 14 to circle or highlight anything on their device to quickly run a search query through Google Search. However, the feature does not currently work in the tablet’s split-screen mode.

Google has stated that it is exploring the possibility of adding support for split-screen mode in a future update. This support is already being tested on Pixel phones starting with the Android 15 Beta 1.2 update.

Overall, Google is continuously working on enhancing its Circle to Search feature, with new functions like the “listen,” “select all,” and “save” buttons being added to improve the user experience. These updates demonstrate Google’s commitment to providing innovative and convenient search capabilities for Android users.
