The latest Android update for Google TV includes a new “find my remote” feature that helps users locate their missing remote controls. This feature allows users to press a button on their Google TV to play a sound on the remote for 30 seconds. The update is currently in beta and was announced at the Google I/O Conference. The On Google TV 4K Pro streaming box from Walmart also supports this feature with a switch to enable or disable it and a button to test the sound.

The remote search function can be activated by pressing a button on the front of the Onn transmission box, causing the remote to beep and turn on a small LED light within a 30-foot range. Support for this feature in Android 14 indicates that it will not be exclusive to Walmart and will be available on other Google TV devices. However, older Google TV remotes without a built-in speaker will not be able to support this feature even with the Android 14 update.

Google has been asked to clarify when the Android 14 update for TV will be widely available and which devices will be supported. Overall, the new “find my remote” feature is a useful addition to the Google TV platform, making it easier for users to locate their misplaced remotes. This feature is designed to work with compatible Google TV remotes and can be a helpful tool for those who frequently lose their remotes.
