Google has added 12 minority ethnic languages spoken in Russia to its translation service in a major update announced on Thursday. This update includes Bashkir, Chechen, Udmurt, and Yakut, among others. The total number of new languages added is 110, with Crimean Tatar being one of them. This language is different from the Tatar spoken in Tatarstan, Russia. In a demonstration of the update, Google translated a phrase into Chechen that highlighted the company’s mission to help people understand the world through different languages. Google used its advanced artificial intelligence language tool to implement this expansion, which it calls its largest ever. The company stated that it will continue to work with linguists and native speakers to support even more language varieties and spelling conventions in the future.
