Google to ramp up Green Card sponsorships for employees in 2026, lays down eligibility rules – The Economic Times

Google plans to restart and scale up green card sponsorships for its employees from 2026, but the benefit will apply only to staff who meet specific eligibility conditions, according to a report by Business Insider.

As per a memo reviewed by Business Insider, the company has informed employees that it will ramp up applications under the US Permanent Labor Certification (PERM) programme next year. PERM is the first formal step for foreign workers to move from a work visa to permanent residency in the US. Google said eligible employees will be contacted by its external legal counsel in the first quarter of 2026, the report said.

Who will be eligible for the sponsorship

In the memo, Google outlined the criteria employees must meet to qualify. It stated that employees must be working in roles that require a degree and prior work experience. It also stated that staff working remotely will not qualify unless they agree to move to a Google office.
