Google is increasing its investments in Ohio with an additional $2.3 billion being put into existing data centers in Columbus, Lancaster, and New Albany. This brings Google’s total investments in Ohio since 2019 to over $5 billion. The investment is aimed at further innovation in Google Cloud services and artificial intelligence. Lt. Gov. Jon Husted highlighted the importance of data centers in our digital lives and praised Google’s investment in central Ohio as a significant boost to technology development in the area.
The announcement was made at Google’s data center on Lockbourne Road in Columbus and attended by several local leaders, including Congresswoman Joyce Beatty, Congressmen Troy Balderson and Mike Carey, and Lieutenant Governor Husted. Google’s initial investments in Ohio began in 2019 with the opening of a data center in New Albany worth $600 million. Subsequent projects included the construction of additional data centers in Columbus and Lancaster totaling $1 billion, with land purchases amounting to 618 acres.
In the past year, Google has also allocated an additional $1.7 billion for technical infrastructure upgrades across all Ohio data centers. These investments are part of Google’s commitment to advancing artificial intelligence innovations and enhancing its Google Cloud services. The move reflects Google’s confidence in Ohio as a key location for technology development and expansion, solidifying the state’s position as a major technology hub in the U.S.
