Google is cracking down on YouTube users who take advantage of VPN services to access cheaper subscriptions in other countries. Users who are detected using VPNs to access YouTube Premium from a different country than their registered location are being asked to update their billing information. Subscribers have taken to Reddit to complain about their canceled subscriptions after Google’s crackdown. VPNs are commonly used for privacy and security reasons, but they can also be used to change your apparent location, allowing users to access cheaper subscription prices in different regions. YouTube Premium costs significantly less in countries like Ukraine compared to the UK, prompting many users to use VPNs to access these lower prices. Google has confirmed that it is canceling subscriptions purchased through VPNs and asking users to update their billing information to reflect their actual location. YouTube Premium offers benefits such as ad-free viewing, offline video downloading, and access to YouTube Music Premium. Prices for YouTube Premium have recently increased in the UK, with existing subscribers also facing higher monthly fees.
