Google Messages to Integrate 911 RCS Texts for Better Emergency Communication

Google announced that RCS texting to 911 services will be available this winter, allowing users to send multimedia messages and receive read receipts. The feature will be accessible through the Google Messages app on Android, in collaboration with emergency technology company RapidSOS. This functionality will enable users to share precise locations, photos, and videos with emergency services. However, the rollout will depend on the adoption by emergency call centers, with no additional costs for them. While the announcement is currently limited to Android devices, the upcoming availability of RCS on Apple’s iPhone suggests that similar emergency contact features may be coming to smartphones in the future.
