Google Messages has introduced a new feature that allows users to zoom in on contact photos and access shortcuts with a single tap. This feature aims to provide users with a better view of contact photos and easy access to start conversations or make calls. The update is gradually rolling out to users worldwide, so it’s recommended to check the availability on the Play Store.
This user-centric feature is a part of Google Messages’ constant evolution and integration with Gemini AI. Users can now enlarge a contact’s profile photo with a long press and access more shortcuts, similar to Apple’s Peek and Pop feature on iOS. The enlarged contact photo allows users to inspect someone’s photo more closely, both in the main list and group conversations.
When long-pressing a contact’s photo, users have three options to start a conversation: Message, Call, and Information. The Call option is not available in group chats when zooming in on a contact’s photo. Additionally, long-pressing outside a contact’s profile picture provides access to more options such as Pin, Archive, Delete, Lock, and Mark as read/unread.
This feature was initially spotted in the beta version of Google Messages and is now rolling out to more users globally in a phased manner. Users are advised to periodically check the Play Store for updates on the availability of the new feature in their Google Messages app.
