Google has launched a new feature called “Adaptive Audio” for Google Meet, which is available to Google Workspace users with access to new AI features. This feature aims to automatically detect multiple laptops in the same room and merge their speakers and microphones, allowing for clear audio from multiple participants without the need to gather around a single device. It also helps reduce echoes and audio feedback, benefiting small organizations and teams without dedicated equipment or experiencing technical difficulties. This feature provides more flexibility in choosing meeting locations, such as cafeterias or lounges, when a conference room is not available.

The rollout of Adaptive Audio will happen gradually over the coming weeks to Google Workspace customers with specific packages, including Gemini Enterprise, Gemini Business, Gemini Education, Gemini Education Premium, and the AI Meetings and Messaging add-on. Once implemented, the feature will be enabled by default, but users can choose to disable it manually if needed.

Announced at the Google Next event, Adaptive Audio is part of a series of new features coming to Google Workspace. During Google I/O, Google also introduced Gemini 1.5 Pro, which will be added to the right sidebar of Workspace apps like Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, Drive, and Gmail to enhance seamless connectivity between them. Additionally, Google presented Google chip, a new capability that allows users to ask an AI agent questions about meetings, emails, and other work-related tasks.
