Google Meet Introduces Enhanced Audio Sync Feature

Google Workspace has introduced a new feature called ‘adaptive audio’ for Google Meet, which aims to improve the audio experience in meeting rooms by automatically syncing the microphones and speakers of multiple laptops in the room. This feature eliminates the need for manual configuration and intervention from users. The goal is to provide a more convenient and seamless audio experience during video conferencing sessions.

The adaptive audio feature is designed to address issues such as awkward echoes and audio feedback that can occur when using multiple devices in a meeting room with insufficient video conferencing equipment. By automatically syncing the audio settings of all laptops in the room, Google Meet users can conduct meetings from any location in their workplace without having to worry about equipment compatibility or having to gather around a single laptop for a conference call.

Google has announced a gradual rollout of the adaptive audio feature, starting on May 22 with a full rollout scheduled for June 5, 2024. The feature will be enabled by default, but users can choose to disable it by accessing the settings menu and navigating to Settings > Audio > Adaptive Audio. It is important to note that there is no administrative control for this feature, so all participants in the meeting will have the same microphone and speaker settings.

The adaptive audio feature is available to Google Workspace customers with certain subscription plans, including Gemini Enterprise, Gemini Business, Gemini Education, Gemini Education Premium, and the AI Meetings and Messaging add-on. However, it is not compatible with Google Meet hardware devices.

Overall, the introduction of the adaptive audio feature in Google Meet aims to enhance the audio experience in meeting rooms and make video conferencing sessions more convenient and seamless for users. By automatically syncing audio settings across multiple devices, the feature helps to eliminate common audio issues that can occur during conference calls, creating a more productive and efficient meeting environment for users.
