Google Cloud rolled out a new AI agent on October 8, 2026 that can write code, draft documents, generate images, and chase down multi-step work assignments without a human typing out each instruction. Called the Gemini agent, the tool marks Google’s clearest bid yet to turn its chatbot into something closer to a digital employee, and it lands at a moment when Microsoft, OpenAI, and Anthropic are all racing toward the same goal: an AI that takes an objective and simply gets the job done.
