Google is continuously improving the overheating features on Pixel phones to prevent damage from extreme temperatures. The latest update to the Device Health Services app will provide more detailed warnings when the phone is overheating. This new feature, called “Adaptive Thermal,” will give users a pre-emergency notification when the phone needs to cool down, along with suggestions on how to lower the temperature. Users will receive alerts at 49 degrees Celsius or 120 degrees Fahrenheit and will be advised to avoid direct sunlight and close apps that require a lot of processing power.
The warning will come with a ‘See Caution’ step button that provides information on what steps the phone is taking to cool down and how users can help. If users prefer less information, they can simply tap “Got it” to close the dialog box. The app will also provide links to Google support for additional tips on solving the overheating issue.
The Adaptive Thermal feature will monitor the battery temperature every 5 minutes and will trigger an emergency shutdown if the temperature reaches 52 degrees Celsius (126 degrees Fahrenheit). A pre-shutdown warning will appear at 55 degrees Celsius (131 degrees Fahrenheit) to give users 30 seconds to save their work before the phone automatically turns off.
This detailed overheating warning system may not be part of a public release but will be implemented as a server-side update. Google is focused on keeping users informed and assisting them in lowering the device’s temperature to prevent overheating issues. With these enhancements, Pixel phone users can rest assured that their device will proactively protect itself from extreme heat conditions and potential damage.
