Google is discontinuing its Stack: PDF Scanner app later this year, with the app ceasing to work on September 23. The features of Stack, such as automatic edge detection and document capture, are now integrated into Google Drive, making Stack redundant. Users can easily transfer their documents to Google Drive using the “Export all documents to Drive” option in Stack account settings. The decision to discontinue Stack aligns with Google’s goal of optimizing its services and streamlining document management tools. This change marks the end of the document scanning application developed by Google’s internal incubator Area 120, which no longer exists. The Drive app now includes a dedicated “Scan” feature with improved document alignment and intuitive controls. Google Drive also utilizes machine learning to suggest relevant titles for scanned documents. To assist Stack users in transitioning to Drive, Google provides an easy way to move all documents to Drive seamlessly. By utilizing the export option in the account settings, users can transfer their documents to a specific folder in Drive. This strategic move by Google aims to consolidate document management within Drive and provide users with a more efficient and integrated platform for scanning and organizing their important documents.
