Google introduces significant changes to desktop and mobile Search

According to Search Engine Land, Google is making a significant change to its search results by removing the ability for users to continuously scroll through results on both desktop and mobile devices. Instead, users will now have to click on a “Next” button on desktop or a “More Results” button on mobile to see additional search results.

This change is intended to make search results load faster for users and to prevent unnecessary loading of results that users may not be interested in. Google claims that allowing infinite scrolling did not lead to higher satisfaction scores for its search engine. The change will also affect websites that may not appear on the first page of search results, as users will have to specifically click on the “Next” or “More Results” buttons to see additional pages of results.

Additionally, Google will be reintroducing pagination controls on its desktop search results, allowing users to jump to specific pages of search results. This change is expected to roll out on desktop in the near future, while the mobile update is expected to be completed by the end of June.

Overall, this change reflects Google’s ongoing efforts to improve user experience and search functionality on its platform. Users may notice fewer visitors to their websites from Google Search as a result of this change, as users will now have to actively click to see additional search results beyond the first page.
