Google is upgrading Gmail with the addition of new artificial intelligence (AI) features aimed at enhancing user experience. The Gemini AI sidebar and email digests are part of the new tool that will offer “proactive prompts” to users, alongside the ability to ask open-ended questions.
The Gemini AI sidebar is designed to simplify email threads and assist in composing new emails. This new feature will also extend to Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Drive, but it will only be accessible to paid subscribers. Initially known as Duet AI, the Gemini 1.5 Pro-powered side panel in Docs allows users to draft and refine content, summarize information, and facilitate brainstorming by incorporating other files.
In Slides, the side panel will aid in creating customized slides, images, presentations, and more. For Sheets users, the side panel can help organize and manage data by assisting in table creation, formula generation, and providing guidance on specific tasks. Drive users will benefit from the Gemini side panel, which can summarize single or multiple documents and provide quick access to project-related information.
As for Gmail, the new side panel will assist users in summarizing email threads, offering suggestions for responses, asking questions, and locating specific information within emails in their inbox or Google Drive files. Overall, Google’s AI-driven enhancements aim to streamline tasks, improve communication, and simplify workflows for users across various Google applications.
