Google Introduces New AdSense Privacy and Messaging Features Allowing Users to Opt Out

Google has introduced a new messaging and privacy feature for AdSense ads in certain US states to comply with privacy regulations. The feature allows site visitors to opt out of selling or sharing their personal information. This feature has been implemented for states like California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, and Utah.

The new feature displays a message to site visitors who are subject to the privacy laws of the specific state they are in. For example, California residents are subject to the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA). The message contains multiple screens that users see when they view it, and includes a “Do Not Sell or Share” link.

In order to enable the new state regulations message, users need to manually enable the new states in the UI’s targeting settings. For existing messages about state regulations, users also need to update their selection manually. The AdSense console allows users to target specific geotargeting options for their messages.

To set up this feature in your AdSense account, you need to log in and go to Privacy and messaging. From there, you can create a new message for the US State Regulations Message Type. Users can select the sites where the message will be displayed, choose the default language, enter a descriptive message name, and edit the content of the message to match their standards. Once everything is set up, users can publish the message or save it as a draft.

For further assistance, users can refer to Google AdSense help documents or join the discussion forum for additional support.
