Google Introduces Advanced AI Photo Editing Tools for Older Smartphones

Google has expanded its Magic Editor, an AI-based photo editing tool, to older smartphones, allowing users to access advanced features without needing the latest Google Pixel phones. Initially released as a Pixel 8 exclusive, the Magic Editor tool is now available on other models through Google Photos. Users can now change, resize, and delete parts of photos using generative AI, making complex edits simple and intuitive.

However, there are some restrictions for non-Pixel Android users and iOS users, who are limited to 10 saves per month. To save more, users can subscribe to a Google One Premium plan for $10, which includes 2TB or more of storage. Some AI tools will still be free for all Google Photos users, such as Magic Eraser, blur, sky suggestions, color pop, HDR effects, portrait blur, portrait light, cinematic photos, styles in collage editor, and video effects.

The full rollout of these features will take place over the next few months, with Android users needing OS 8.0 or later, 4GB or more of RAM, and a 64-bit chipset. Google had previously announced its plans to bring these tools to more devices, gradually starting on May 15.

This expansion of AI tools to older smartphones reflects the growing trend of artificial intelligence reaching more consumers, regardless of their device model. Google continues to innovate in the AI space, as showcased at their recent I/O event.

In summary, Google has made its AI-based Magic Editor photo editing tool available on older smartphones through Google Photos, expanding access to advanced editing features beyond Pixel devices. Users can make complex photo edits with simple actions like resizing, moving objects, and changing lighting. While some features have restrictions for non-Pixel Android and iOS users, the rollout of AI tools will continue over the next few months, showcasing Google’s commitment to innovative technology.
