Google has introduced a new intrusion detection service for its cloud firewall together with “Adaptive Protection”, but this makes security an expensive feature.

The chocolate factory’s first ever digital security summit took place yesterday, where the company put forward its notion of “invisible security”. CEO Thomas Kurian encouraged companies to move their “digital assets” to the cloud in order to benefit from “cloud-native security”. According to GM and VP of Cloud Security Sunil Potti, invisible security means that “security technologies are developed in … security operations while a silo disappears.”

It quickly became apparent that this goal is still a long way off. The big announcement at the event was a new service called Google IDS (Intrusion Detection Service) that requires security knowledge to set up and maintain.
