Google App Introduces ‘Notifications’ Tab for Android Devices

In March, the Google app for Android introduced a new feature where a dedicated “Notifications” feed was added to the bottom bar alongside Discover, Search, and Saved. This update marks the incorporation of the mobile web into the app. The Notifications feed displays alerts from Google Search, such as weather updates, flight information, sports scores, and more, grouped by “Today” and “Previously.” It allows users to easily access and interact with the notifications they may have missed.

The feed can be accessed by tapping on the bell icon in the bottom bar of the Google app. This new feature is currently being rolled out, with the latest beta version (version 15.20) showcasing the update. Despite this new addition, the Google app has yet to receive a Material 3 design update, making it one of the last first-party clients to do so. However, even the Google app for iOS has already been updated.

Users can interact with the notifications in the feed by tapping on them to load the associated search term. Each notification also has a menu that allows users to delete, stop receiving similar notifications, or provide feedback. This feature adds more functionality and customization options to the Google app, making it a more user-friendly experience.

Overall, the addition of the Notifications feed to the Google app for Android provides users with a convenient way to stay updated on important information sent through Google Search. It enhances the app’s functionality and user experience, showcasing Google’s commitment to improving its services for its users.
