Google is set to release its first Tensor chip, the Tensor G5, which will be manufactured by TSMC. This new chip is expected to debut with the Pixel 10 next year. In the meantime, Google is gearing up to launch three Pixel 9 phones this fall, with the Tensor G4 chip produced by Samsung Foundry. The Tensor G4 chip is not anticipated to bring significant upgrades to the Pixel 9 series this year, with the focus likely being on enhancing AI features.

Recent leaks suggest that the Pixel 9 series is still a few months away from its debut, with three devices, including a new Pro XL model, expected to hit the market. The Tensor G4 chip powering the upcoming Pixel 9 series will come from Samsung Foundry, contrary to earlier beliefs that it would be produced by TSMC. The launch of Google’s first fully customized Tensor chip in collaboration with TSMC was initially planned for 2025, but newly discovered evidence indicates that the Tensor G5 chip, made by TSMC, will be introduced with the Pixel 10 next year.

Reports from Android Authority reveal that a shipping manifest from India points towards an in-development version of the Tensor G5 chipset manufactured using TSMC InFO POP Technology. The codename for the Tensor G5 is “LGA” (Lagoon Beach), and it is expected to support at least 16 GB of RAM produced by Samsung. The manifest originates from Tessolve Semiconductor, an India-based company known for testing semiconductors. The details surrounding this chipset are still limited at this time.

Regarding the Tensor G4 chip, also known as Zuma Pro, it is unlikely to bring significant updates compared to its predecessor, the Tensor G3 (Zuma). The focus of the Pixel 9 series is expected to be on AI features, similar to the Pixel 8 series, which combined hardware and software elements for enhanced photo and video capabilities. The Tensor G4 is also slated to power the Pixel Fold 2, showcasing advancements over the previous generation Tensor chips used in the Pixel Folds.

In conclusion, Google’s foray into custom-designed Tensor chips signifies a shift towards more integrated hardware and software solutions in their pixel devices. The upcoming Tensor G5 chip, manufactured by TSMC, is poised to bring further enhancements in performance and capabilities to future Pixel devices, starting with the Pixel 10. The integration of AI technologies and advancements in semiconductor manufacturing are key aspects driving the evolution of Google’s Pixel lineup.
