The AI ​​industry has been abuzz with news and rumors lately that Google’s latest TPU, Ironwood, powers the Gemini3 model and outperforms OpenAI on many metrics, including intelligence and performance. Now The Information is reporting, also confirmed by Bloomberg and CNBC, that Alphabet’s Google is preparing to make its TPUs available beyond Google Cloud, with Meta Platforms the leading design winner. According to rumors, Google is also offering the Ironwood Pod to other hyperscalers and large companies as an Nvidia alternative. As a result, Alphabet is up nearly 50% in the last month, while Nvidia is down over 7%. But soon another shoe will drop. (Note that this story contains my analyst speculation.)

My opinion

Historically, TPUs have been limited to Google’s own fleet and only deployed as a managed service on Google Cloud. This barrier has limited TPUs primarily to Google’s own workloads. But now there are rumors that Google is actively offering on-prem or colocation TPU…
