It looks like Rare’s classic James Bond game GoldenEye 007 may hit the Xbox. Achievements for the game have appeared online as discovered by Wario64 and posted on True success.

Success pictures and a GoldenEye 007 thumbnail also appeared online, adding to speculation that the 1997 Nintendo 64 game might hit Xbox in the future. According to the leak, there are a total of 55 achievements worth 1,000 gamerscore. Based on the text of the achievements, it looks like both the campaign and multiplayer are on the way.

2022 will be the 60th anniversary of the James Bond series. The company behind the franchise teased today that fans “should watch out for announcements, events and new content in 2022”. A re-release of GoldenEye 007 might appear to be among the surprising announcements, although nothing has been confirmed at this point.

Years ago and Xbox Live Arcade version of GoldenEye 007 was supposedly in development. Xbox CEO Phil Spencer said the lack of GoldenEye 007 on Xbox was one “legal problem,” This suggests that this is a business issue causing a downtime as opposed to any issues getting the game working on new hardware.

The “rights issue” could also explain why GoldenEye 007 was not featured in the 30 game Rare repetition Package.

According to Unseen64, GoldenEye for Xbox Live Arcade was developed by Rare in 2007 and 2008. Microsoft, Activision (the then James Bond rights holders) and Nintendo apparently agreed on a publishing contract. However, Nintendo Japan is said to have stopped the project just a few months before its scheduled release for unknown reasons.
