WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – Go, go, go. Cellular companies are starting to phase out the 3G network. If you are using an old phone or a security and alarm system, you could lose that service.
It’s called 3G sunset. The slow cell service has been around for two decades and companies are planning to turn it off. Any device that still uses 3G will have to be converted in around eight months.
Audio Video Innovations does many things from home automation to security systems and video surveillance. Vice President Eric Peters said there may be phones that still use 3G, but there aren’t many as our phones have adapted to the latest networks.
Peters said that when it comes to security and alarm systems, the systems there lagged a little.
