ARIZONA (REUTERS) – The web hosting company GoDaddy announced on Monday (November 22) that the email addresses of up to 1.2 million active and inactive Managed WordPress customers had been disclosed in the event of unauthorized access by third parties.

The company said the incident was discovered on November 17 and the third-party vendor accessed the system with a compromised password.

“We detected suspicious activity in our managed WordPress hosting environment and, with the help of an IT forensics firm, immediately opened an investigation and contacted law enforcement,” said Demetrius Comes, chief information security officer, in a file.

The company, whose shares fell roughly 1.6 percent in early trading, said it blocked the unauthorized third party immediately and an investigation is pending.
